Science for Enrichment

people_galileoThe policy for the Science Lab is that students have a variety of experiences in exploring science beyond the standards for their grade level. Some of the activities are for building science skills, others are to prepare a foundation for learning science concepts, and many activities stretch past what is covered in their regular classroom. We also work with science notebooks and stress the importance of keeping notes and writing our observations.

Changing Earth Project for 4th Graders

We will be experimenting with researching and creating a website! First, you need to pick a topic:

  • Plate Tectonics
  • Earth’s Layers
  • Volcanoes
  • Weathering and Erosion
  • Earthquakes
  • Rocks and Rock Identification
  • Rocks and the Rock Cycle

Before you pick one of the above topics, you might want to browse them to see which one has enough information and also is of interest to you.

To browse, go to mattermasters.com and click on the links. Scroll down and start browsing links on the above topics.

When you have picked a topic, please fill out a think sheet/graphic organizer/brains storming page to help you organize your information.

To create an online graphic organizer, we are going to try bubbl.us.

Once you have created and printed out a completed graphic organizer, then Mrs. Allard will give you your username and password for your account on Weebly.com. Weebly.com is where we are going to create our website. The website will be published after my approval.

All of these sites, except for MatterMasters, are new things for us to try. All of them can be accessed at home. With Ms. Wiese’s approval, maybe you can use the website as your science project that is due in January!!!
